What Do We Actually Need?
Every day, there’s a desire in our heart, and it could be anything, say, food, sleep, vacation, or anything on the face of earth. Most of our desires shoot up from wants, in spite of our needs. We are evolved in a certain way that we can’t really get rid of desires. However, our actions are based on the thought of fulfillment of these desires and they indirectly feed our needs.
Did we ever think about what we actually need?
We need peace in our heart and mind. This is the real treasure we need and we should desire for. We can’t survive without desire. After all, desires keep our lives in motion and attribute some sort of meaningfulness to it.
We never thought about our heart’s true desire. We are merely following a monotonous lifestyle and routine. In this stagnant living, we might gain material wealth, but for our happy survival through the adversities of life, we need something to quench our heart, mind and soul.
The most effective and easiest way to relax is to do something that is directly related to the peace of soul, mind, heart, and body.
That simple way is Yoga. Yeah, you read it right!
Yoga is not only related to fitness, health and exercise, it is a spiritual approach to calm your mind and dwell a connection with the higher power.
The Sanskrit term yoga essentially means a union of two things or entities at a transcendental or metaphysical (beyond physical) or spiritual level. The asanas in yoga are a medium to relax your body and mind, so that the soul can discover peace and bliss, and find the path to reach the higher reality.
Peace of mind, heart and soul are the real treasures one should desire for. |
Yoga not only impacts the physical, but has a stupendous impact on the mental and spiritual. It helps in fighting depression and stress-related issues. It builds your immunity and provides a sound and awakened mind which is more receptive and reflective.
It enhances one's capability to understand and learn, also it promises peace of mind, heart and body.
There are several asanas (postures), however, the best way to reach the calmness of sense faculties is to practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness is a state of living in the present moment. Every day try to sit in solitude with yourself and observe your inner state which is your emotions, feelings, ideas, thoughts, etc. It is an essential practice for introspection as well. Try to focus on the present moment and relax your mind, and you will get clarity on things like never before. Observe your breath and think nothing. Just enjoy the present moment. Be in the present moment. No worries of the past and future. Only you and You (your soul).
Once you try this for a few days, you will mark a slight change in your behavior. Initially, it will be difficult, you will feel lost or uneasy, but later you will acknowledge relaxation and your outlook of life will change.
We are undoubtedly in need of this peace and calmness. The future is uncertain, and worries about the future and past are constant. We really need to experience this present moment and celebrate life because this is all we have our control on.
This International Yoga Day, let’s begin our journey towards a happy mind and a happy life.
